Vol. XXII, No. 7 King's Gate Club - a 55+ community, Nokomis, Florida February 14, 2009

CONDOLENCES:   Tom Robinson passed away January 19 in New Jersey.   Tom and his wife, Lois (who passed away several years ago), were former long-time residents at the Club.   Sympathy cards to the family may be sent to Dr. David Robinson, 17 Dilts Lane, Hillsboro, NJ   08844

THANK YOU so much to my friends and neighbors in King's Gate, for the many cards and messages following Ray's passing.   It is good that we were here in Ohio with our family, at this sad time.   I received a beautiful prayer shawl from the Prayer Shawl Club.   I will put it to good use in this cold weather and think of all the good times we had in Kings Gate for 21 years.   Thank you again!   Sincerely, Joann Webb  -  109 Shepherds Ridge, Waynesville, Ohio   45068

GUIDE DOGS:   Today is our annual Fund Raiser to support Southeastern Guide Dogs, one of two major charities sponsored by KGC.   Your monetary support is important to continue the good works of this organization.   SEGD does not receive ANY funds from any governmental agency.   Baron, with Lorraine and Duchess, with Leigh Anne are our current sponsored "Puppies" being raised for future Guide Dogs.   We ask for your generosity when we "Pass the Basket" this morning, so we may be able to Name a Puppy this year.   Thank You All   Nip & Jackie Barker

ORCHIDS:   To Jim and Pat Bryson.   Jim talked about our Guide Dog Program here at the Club to his Lions' Club in Greenwich, CT.   They donated $1,000 for this worthy endeavor to be handled through KGC.   That helps the program and also helps us to have the funds to name another dog.

THOUGHTS:   As I sit at the computer this evening, I'm thinking of the Southeastern Guide Dogs.   Nip and Jackie Barker work hard for this program.   Today, Saturday, is the Annual Fund Raiser for the "Dogs."   I feel this is such a worthwhile program.   It is impossible for us to even imagine what it would be like to be blind.   And now we have veterans who are returning blind and need Guide Dogs, too.   And, when a blind person receives a guide dog, it gives them a whole new lease on life.   So, I know we will give generously today to help this very wonderful program.       -   SJB
