DVD LIBRARY has four new DVDs added this week: Santa Buddies - 4 Christmases - Angels and Demons - Night at Museum (New One). PLEASE remind all guests and visitors, especially children, that the DVDs are for all residents and guests to enjoy. Please bring them to the Video Room and show them how to sign out a DVD and when they return them, to cross off the house # and return to the shelf in numerical order. Amazing how many people do not follow this simple rule. Handle the DVD by the EDGE ONLY (so no finger marks are visible), when removing them and placing them back in the holder. If this happens, I have to clean them, which makes more work for me :-( If you can see smudges on the DVD, you can use a dab of dish washing soap - smear it around - rinse well and wipe with clean, soft towels. This will usually work if the DVD is not scratched. IF SCRATCHED, I try and repair it with a machine I have. If you have a question, call or email me 488-8967 - Ickes@kgc.cc - BUT do not call or email if someone did not return the DVD. Call the person who had it before. Most likely it is STILL in their DVD PLAYER. ---JEAN - The VIDEO LADY
LADIES' CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON: On Wednesday, 75 ladies enjoyed a delightful Christmas luncheon at Venetian Golf and River Club. The food was delicious and the surroundings very elegant and trimmed for the holidays. Our own Ron Carpenter entertained us with his wonderful singing, which we all greatly enjoyed! Toys for Tots arrived to pick up the gifts we had for them, and also explained a little about their organization. $450 was given by KGC residents to buy gifts for 11 to 16 year olds, plus many toys were also donated. Our sincere thanks to Chairperson Judy Blow and her committee: Posie Gallaher, Ann Franco, Martha Hicks and Gigi Conway. Thanks, too, to Sandy McIntyre who prepared the tickets and poster. What a wonderful way to start the holiday season!
ORCHIDS to Ron Carpenter, who said last year he sang at one nursing home, and now he is singing at eight nursing homes!!! What a great way to make people feel better. Ron said he presented the same program at our Christmas Luncheon that he does at the nursing homes.

CPR---------------------------------Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
When an adult has a sudden cardiac arrest, his or her survival depends greatly on immediately getting CPR from someone nearby. Unfortunately, less than 1/3 of those people, who experience a cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location, get that help. Most bystanders are worried that they might do something wrong or make things worse. That's why the American Heart Association, the Red Cross and the American Safety & Health Institute have simplified things.
Two Steps to Save a Life - When an adult suddenly collapses, trained or untrained bystanders---that means a person near the victim should: 1) Call 911 2) Push hard and fast, in the center of the chest.
Studies of real emergencies that have occurred in homes, at work, or in public locations, show that these two steps, called Hands-Only CPR, can be as effective as conventional CPR. Providing Hands-Only CPR, to an adult who has collapsed from a sudden cardiac arrest, can more than double that person's chance of survival. It's not normal to see an adult suddenly collapse, but if you do, call 911 and push hard and fast in the center of the chest. Don't be afraid. Your actions can only help. ---Emil DePasquale

INSIDE DECORATIONS: When it was announced that Ernie Auerbach could not chair the decorations in the clubhouse this year, Linda Varty instantly said she would take over this year. She asked that people stay after the meeting last Saturday and help with the decorations. It is true that many hands many light work. The clubhouse is decorated, and looks lovely. Thanks to Linda and all who helped her.

www.LetsSayThanks.com: Xerox is doing something cool. If you use a computer, go to this web site, where you can pick out a thank you card (designed by school children). At no cost to you, Xerox will print it, and it will be sent to a soldier currently serving overseas. (snopes.com confirms this is true). It only takes a couple minutes of your time. What an easy, FREE way, to thank our service men and women. Thanks for supporting our troops! ---Ginnie Zeh

THOUGHTS: There are so many people here at the Club who work for us, and we really don't know about it. One of these is Betty Kundrot. For several years, Betty has come over to the clubhouse around 6 AM on Saturdays, opened the doors, put out the goodies, seen to it that the podium was ready for use, and done anything else that is needed to be done on Saturday mornings. I know that you don't want any credit, Betty, but we all truly appreciate what you do - FOR US!!! ---SJB
