A RESIDENT REMINISCES:   MELANIE PILLAR.   This week we interviewed Melanie Pillar.   Melanie and Bill Pillar purchased 1 Castle Drive in April, 2004.
They lived in Venice from 1974 to 1976 when Bill managed the K-Mart Store, and when they were transferred they said they would return to Venice some day.   They returned to Venice in 1989.   At one time, they owned 21 apartments in Venice.   Bill was with Wal-Mart and opened stores on the Gulf Coast and other parts of Florida.   Melanie worked at that time on refurbishing the apartments.
Melanie was born in Indianapolis, IN, and grew up there.   She went to Ball State University in Muncie, IN.   The Pillars were married in Speedway, IN, on July 23, 1967.   They have three children, two daughters, one is a consultant for NASA and one is a Missionary in Taiwan, and one son who is a Physical Therapist.  They now have eight grandchildren.   Soon, however, it will be nine as their daughter and her husband, who are Missionaries, are in the process of adopting a five year old girl.
The Pillars have traveled overseas to some interesting places:   Indonesia (Java), Thailand, China, and they hope to go soon to Taiwan to visit their family there.
Melanie was a Medical Transcriptionist for years.   In Venice, she worked for Drs. Ross and Thro.   Then Bill retired.   She decided to quit work.   Then they decided to move to KGC and have an easier life style.   In the summer, they go to Virginia and to Linville, N.C., where they have a cottage and will spend summers there.
Melanie belongs to Gifts From God Church in Sarasota, which works with homeless people.   She meets there each Monday evening to help women with personal ministry.   Melanie and Mary Carpenter are presently leading a Women's Bible Class here at the Club and plan to continue it for some time if there is a demand.   (Interviewer's note:   See either of these gals if you are interested in joining this group).   Melanie says she is blessed with a wonderful life.
;    She started working for King's Gate Realty Co. about two years ago as a Real Estate Agent.   She has had her Real Estate License in Florida since 1990, and formerly worked for Country Club Estates and Paradise Realty.   She passed all necessary tests and received her Broker's License recently and will now oversee operation of the Realty Co. (as well as selling when needed).
Melanie and Bill, we're happy you are residents of the Club.   We appreciate all you do for KGC!

THOUGHTS:   In going around the Club, have noticed that people do not always walk on the correct side of the street.   Walk FACING on-coming automobiles.   Also, when riding a bike, drive WITH the traffic.   And, drivers keep your speed down.       ---SJB
